This shoot seemed divinely timed…after exactly one hour of capturing the brother & sister pair as they each expressed their own (very unique) personalities, it started to rain just as we wrapped. I was inspired listening to the violin singing through the forest while I photographed, and heard the sounds of a football being tossed between father & son behind me. What a beautiful day.

Earlier this year, I felt inspired by the Dar Williams song “Mercy of the Fallen,” and I set out to capture a little bit of the magic of what I’ve learned thus far in life’s journey. These images were captured on film with a medium format camera, some are double exposures. They were printed with a lithographic developer, and now grace my living room wall as framed reminders.

My friend and fellow photographer, Melissa Levin, was kind enough to invite me to participate in a shoot she coordinated today on Capitol Hill here in Seattle. I was able to shoot some color slide film with my Hasselblad (it’s not developed yet) for the first time, and can’t wait to see how they turn out.
With my D300, I documented the ‘getting ready’ phase, as makeup and hair was assembled at Roy Street Coffee House nearby. Later, Melissa let me direct a few shots of my own while we were on-location (thank you, Melissa!).
SUPER fun morning, and I learned a great deal. Makeup artist was another photographer friend of mine, the amazing Grace Seidel. Models were the beautiful Morgan, Abby and Kaylee.

My absolute favorite holiday of the year – the big one, where we celebrate LOVE – is just one month away. Valentine’s Day! How much fun would it be to have your own L-O-V-E themed photo shoot, and give the pictures as gifts? Ring me up, and let’s do it!

Breaking in a new camera, I coerced one of my brave & sassy friends to pose for me…just for a few frames, as it was a cold November day, near Phinney Ridge in Seattle, and it didn’t take long for my fingers to freeze! Note to self, must always bring gloves. Thanks for trusting me with your beauty, Ro. Hope you enjoy them. xoxo.

In September, I met one of my favorite families for our annual photography session. I have been taking pictures of these two beautiful kids for five years now – they were some of my very first clients and subjects when I moved here to Seattle. Oh, how they’ve grown – I love seeing the changes (and constants) year after year.
When I put out the call for models for my “Quintessential Pacific Northwest Childhood” project last winter, I didn’t dream that I would get to reconnect with friends from my college days! Hannah’s mom and dad went to Whitman College with me – her mom and I were sorority sisters in Delta Gamma, and her dad was in our brother frat house Beta Theta Pi. They’ve been sweethearts since I met them, and I hadn’t seen them in more than a decade.
When Theresa sent me the photograph of Hannah with her long braids and red crocs, I knew I wanted to photograph her for the project. Hannah’s family drove all the way out from Tri-Cities to meet me at one of my secret “great-photo-locations” just a ferry ride away from Seattle and we had a blast taking Hannah’s pictures.
Hannah loves marine biology, and plans to save the ocean. Knowing this, we met on the rocky shores of Puget Sound at low tide. I think she had fun, I know I did. Here are a few of my favorites:
